Millipede Information and Control: New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut areas
Appearance 1/16" to 4 1/2" usually black or brown. Worm-like appearance, 30-90 legs. Band-like ridges on the body. Habitat Outdoors, in high moisture areas, wood and leaf piles and in grass clipping piles. How do they affect me? They are a nuisance pest, however because of their size they can be intimidating. What should I do? It is key to eliminate the moisture source. Ensure leaf piles and grass clippings are removed from your yard. Keeping your grass mowed, and watering your lawn in the morning to allow fast drying of the grass, will prevent moisture during the evening hours. Millipedes are covered under our Home Pest Prevention Program.
